History of Copacabana Quartzite, Where it Comes From
Fifty-two years ago, in 1968, the state of Espirito Santo got to know what would become a significant location for the extraction, production and commercialisation of exotic marble, quartzite and granite.
Copacabana quartzite comes from the marble sawmill of San Antonio – located near Espirito Santo in Brazil. The quarry became active when Luiz Scaramussa started operating a single quarry of white marble, the San Antonio marble. The quarry expanded, and in 1978, it moved its head office to Cachoeiro de Itapemirim. In 2003 the company started a second mining operation in Monte Libano, also in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim city. Born as a challenging enterprise, San Antonio carries some of the most beautiful Copacabana quartzite slabs imported into the UK.
Other stones from this quarry are Cocadablú, Cullinan (a black tourmaline stone with crystals and rare minerals), Glacier marble, Gabana quartzite, and more.
Brazil’s Best Kept Secret In Your Kitchen
Copacabana Quartzite is a beautiful natural stone hiding in plain sight for centuries. Then, in 1968, Espirito Santo became aware of what would grow into a gigantic marble, quartzite and marble quarry comprising Copacabana quartzite, amongst other prized natural materials.
Copacabana quartzite comes from the San Antonio marble mill in Brazil, near Espirito Santo, that started operating in 1968. By 1978 the quarry grew and relocated its offices to Cachoeiro de Itapemirim. By 2003, the quarry began a second operation in Monte Libano and Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, quarrying materials that include Copacabana granite, Culinam granite, Emerald quartzite and other exotic and trendy home decoration materials. This stone is only present in one place on Earth, in a small Brazilian town and mountain.

Metallo quartzite comprises 100% raw minerals and includes natural quartz, feldspar, biotite mica, and garnet. There are no additives, colourants or resins. Due to the lack of calcific minerals, quartzite's surface doesn't etch when exposed to acidic substances.
One of the critical features of Metallo quartzite is its longevity. According to the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, a natural stone worktop such as quartzite can last up to 100 years.
Yes. Unlike manufactured stones such as quartz and engineered marble, Metallo quartzite comprises 100% natural minerals and is suitable for outdoors applications. In addition, the lack of resins in quartzite worktops ensures that their colours don't fade or alter even when you install them externally.
Yes. Like any natural stone, Metallo quartzite is porous due to its surface's micro-permeable nature. When a stone is porous, it can absorb liquids through micropores and its interfacial texture. Therefore, you can seal Metallo quartzite with an inexpensive stone sealant by spreading the transparent liquid over the surface and letting it rest for a minimum of 12 hours.
Repeat this process every 18-24 months, depending on how much traffic your quartzite surface receives.
Yes. If the chip or scratch in your quartzite worktop is over 5 mm deep, this part of the worktop becomes more susceptible to discolouration. You can repair chips on quartzite worktops by applying colour-matched stone resin, restoring the non-porosity in this area. A professional worktop installer may also buff the top layer of the stone to remove superficial scratches, restoring the original shine of the quartzite's surface.
Metallo quartzite, also known as Mercury quartzite, is a natural stone from Porto Alegre, Brazil.
