History of Port Laurent marble
Port Laurent marble is a dark brown with light rusty bronze and ochre vining and white lines marble quarried in Biougra, Agadir, in southern Morocco. The Atlantic Ocean locates Agadir at approximately 400 miles from Casablanca.
The Port Laurent quarry comes from southwestern Biougra near the Aït Baha cement plant. It is extracted in blocks finished in Italy to various textures such as polished and honed for different applications such as worktops, floors and walls.
Marble is a natural stone formed from limestone that has undergone a process of metamorphism, or change, due to high pressure and heat. The exact age of Port Laurent marble is unknown, as marble’s formation depends on various geological factors, such as the type of rock it was initially formed from, the intensity and duration of heat and pressure, and the period in which these processes occurred.
However, based on the region’s geological history, it is likely that Port Laurent was formed during the Palaeozoic era, which lasted from around 541 million years ago to 252 million years ago. This era was characterised by the formation of many different types of rocks due to the movement of tectonic plates, and it is possible that Port Laurent marble was formed during this time.

In addition, the natural patterns and hues of the marble can be easily damaged by exposure to rain, sun, and other weather conditions.
