Where is Galaxy Black granite from?
Galaxy Black granite comes from the region of Ongole, a South India district renamed in honour of a great patriot and former chief minister. It was initially called Ongole district but was later changed to Prakasam in tribute to Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu.
South India is known for its thriving granite deposits and its textile industry. In addition, Ongole is one of the major cities in the region known for producing cotton. So you’re wearing a cotton shirt or see a Black Galaxy granite worktop; it may have come from Ongole!
Black Galaxy granite, or Galaxy Black as it is sometimes known, is a beautiful ornamental stone sourced from the Ongole region of South India. The area was renamed in honour of a great Indian ruler and has provided quality granite for commercial use since its discovery in the late 1980s. This stunning stone, with its unique black base and golden specks, makes for an attractive feature wall or worktop edge.
Other common names for this granite are Star Galaxy granite, Warangal Black granite, India Black Gold granite, and Star Black granite.
The uniqueness of Galaxy Black is found in the way it absorbs light, transforming from muted to reflective depending on lighting conditions. As a result, no two pieces are exactly alike, making each one truly special and one-of-a-kind.
A benefit of this material is that it retains its colour intensity over time and does not require regular maintenance as other natural stones do.

Absolutely! Not only is it highly stain and scratch resistant, but its dark patterns will make any spillages unnoticeable. In addition, Galaxy Black worktops are one of the most robust types of granite that can withstand high temperatures and impact with relative ease.
The answer is no, as long as the stone is sealed correctly and protected from UV rays. Sealing ensures that moisture cannot seep into the stone and cause damage. All types of granite should be sealed at least once every other year to ensure maximum performance against staining agents like food oils, liquids, or sauces.
While Galaxy Blck granite is an affordable natural stone, its robustness and weight make it more time-consuming to cut and install than other materials, taking its total cost 'installed' a notch higher. If you are looking for affordable alternatives to Black Galaxy granite worktops, you should consider quartz materials such as Silestone Night Tebas, Compac Nocturno, or Quartzforms Twinkle Black quartz.
Galaxy Black granite comprises a unique mineral combination, including feldspar, quartz biotite, and others, making it a one-of-a-kind black natural stone.
