History of Copacabana Quartzite, Where it Comes From

Fifty-two years ago, in 1968, the state of Espirito Santo got to know what would become a significant location for the extraction, production and commercialisation of exotic marble, quartzite and granite.

Copacabana quartzite comes from the marble sawmill of San Antonio – located near Espirito Santo in Brazil. The quarry became active when Luiz Scaramussa started operating a single quarry of white marble, the San Antonio marble. The quarry expanded, and in 1978, it moved its head office to Cachoeiro de Itapemirim.In 2003 the company started a second mining operation in Monte Libano, also in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim city. Born as a challenging enterprise, San Antonio carries some of the most beautiful Copacabana quartzite slabs imported into the UK.
