- Granite is 100% natural and does not contain polymer resins affecting its colour when exposed to UV rays for long periods. Therefore, unlike quartz and other engineered work surfaces, you can use them outdoors.
- Each natural granite slab comes from unique blocks. However, each granite piece is reproducible in its pattern.
- Granite can withstand up to 650 C heat and is highly stain and scratch-resistant.

Additionally, it has a density of 2.7 g/cm3 and water absorption of 0.04%, making it an excellent choice for high-traffic areas.
According to technical research by the Marble Institute of America, a 2.54 cm (1/8 inch) thickness is standard for visible joints between the granite worktops units and other materials.
But here's the catch - this standard doesn't apply to appliances like ovens and fridges.
The manufacturing of appliances also has tolerances, so the transition between your worktop and fridge isn't entirely under the control of the kitchen worktop supplier. In addition, your granite's worktop lifecycle will outlast your appliances, so the replacement fridge you'll buy in the future may be slightly larger or smaller than the existing one. And let's not forget fridges have side panels that usually come with a slight bow due, so getting an exact fit between the worktop and appliance isn't practical.
So, if you notice a joint between your worktop and fridge is more significant than 2.54 cm, don't panic. It's not something that you can change.
