Where is Bianco Lasa marble from?
Bianco Lasa marble was first discovered in the Bolzano province, Val Venosta, and Trentino-Alto Adige region of Italy. The origins of the marble can be traced back to the Jurassic period, around 150 million years ago.
During this time, the area was covered by a shallow sea, and sedimentary rock composed of limestone and clay was deposited. Over time, the rock was subjected to intense pressure and heat, causing the limestone to recrystallise and form marble. The quarries of Bianco Lasa are in the Lasa valley, near the town of Lasa. This region is known for its high-quality marble and has been a centre of stone mining for centuries.
Bianco Lasa is a famous marble material in architecture and design due to its crystalline beauty and durability. It is the material of choice in many prominent monuments, such as the Queen Victoria Memorial in St. James Park London, and in the bust of Commodore James Graham Goodenough (1877) at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich and the colossal statue of King Alfred the Great at Wantage Square in Oxfordshire.
It is also a popular pick for kitchen countertops, flooring, bathrooms, sculptures and decorative elements.
