Calacatta Colorado marble is a natural stone from Colorado, USA. The most prevalent Calacatta Colorado marble quarries are located in the upper Crystal River Valley, South of Carbondale and outside the town of Marble. After some years of sitting dormant, the quarry was acquired and reopened in 2011 by R.E.D. Granit is a company dedicated to the processing of natural marble.
Calacatta Colorado marble was discovered in 1873 by accident by an explorator who was looking for gold deposits in the region.
The Yule marble deposit is operates all year-round in new underground portals situated immediately south of the Washington Gallery, the original quarry aperture. In 2019, the once mined Osgood quarry reactivation as the Franklin Quarry, which is now only active in summer.
The ancient and contemporary quarries and galleries are named after USA Presidents and Founding Fathers after being renamed the Pride of America Mine.
The Lincoln Gallery is an underground room accessed through three new quarries. The Hamilton Gallery, the newest underground space, is located south of the Lincoln Gallery. The Franklin Quarry presently goes by the ancient surface name of Osgood Quarry. In the vicinity of Yule Creek, 2700 metres above the ground.
