Let’s call it what it is: Pietra Cardoso Soapstone.
Commonly called limestone, Pietra Di Cardoso is a natural Soapstone. Quarried in the Apual Alps in the region of Carrara in Italy, it is a metamorphic rock with a medium-toned blue-grey colour with sporadic veining.
It has notable compactness and toughness due to its mineral composition. Some sources cite it as Pietra, a sandstone comprising fragments of granite particles.
Soapstone worktops like PIetra Cardosohave several benefits, including being nearly impervious to staining and scratches and superior resistance to high heat. Soapstone is also soft on the Mohs Hardness Scale, which makes it ideal for carving bespoke sinks directly into the kitchen worktops.

Pietra Cardoso limestone, or Pietra Di Cardosa, comprises raw minerals and is a 100% natural stone, with the following technical data:
- Density (kg): 2700-2900
- Frost Resistance (Class): F1
- Flexural strength (Mpa): 9.0-10.0
- Water Absorption (%): 0.2-0.4
- Abrasion resistance (mm): 28.5
- Chemical Resistance: Resistant to most acids and alkalis
- MOHS (Scratch resistance): 5-6
These technical data provide a valuable reference for architects, designers, and contractors considering using Pietra Di Cardoso stone in their projects. The density of the rock, for example, is critical for structural calculations and installation considerations. In addition, the frost resistance class indicates the stone's resistance level against freeze-thaw cycles, which is especially important for outdoor applications.
The flexural strength and abrasion resistance values are essential indicators of the durability and resistance to wear and tear of the stone. The water absorption percentage is also significant for applications where the rock may be exposed to water or moisture.
