SUMMARY

  • Silestone Ethereal is a new Series of quartz stones from 2021 by Cosentino in collaboration with Cindy Crawford to promote a range of worktop materials offering timeless aesthetics through sustainable manufacturing practices.
  • Silestone is a brand name by Cosentino, a Spanish private company that is the largest quartz manufacturer globally.
  • You can purchase Silestone products through approved worktop suppliers, online stores and fabrication companies.
  • Various distributors, importers and stone platforms also facilitate purchasing Silestone.
  • There are pros and cons associated with Silestone Ethereal quartz, and hence an informed decision should be made while investing in Silestone surfaces.

What are Silestone countertops made of?

The composition of Silestone quartz kitchen worktops has over 90% quartz. High-quality quartz such as Silestone contains a balanced mix of 90% natural minerals and no more than 10% resins, colour pigments and polymers. A perfect combination of these raw materials is critical to forming a high-performing quartz surface. Cheaper products contain a lower content of natural quartz, resulting in a lower performance quartz worktop. Moreover, quartz slabs with a high percentage of resins and polymers can result in higher water absorption rates and lower scratch-resistant levels when compared to high-quality quartz materials.

But Silestone goes further by adding bacteriostatic protection, N-Boost, and the latest HybriQ sustainable technology. That’s why it is crucial to ensure you buy worktops from reliable and well-known brands, ensuring you’ll enjoy your kitchen surfaces without worrying about hygiene and practicality.

What is Silestone made of

HybriQ Technology. What is it?

According to Silestone, the HybriQ technology is a new high-performance formula made through a manufacturing process that is 100% powered by renewable energy and recycled water. This new generation of surfaces is a hybrid quartz product containing a minimum of 20% of recycled materials that include premium minerals, quartz, and glass. With HybriQ+ products, the brand uses a minimum of 50% of the same recycled materials. In addition, it results in a more sustainable and aesthetic material with the assurance by Cosentino.

The below video shows how HybriQ works on these quartz worktop materials.

Now that you know what this hybrid quartz technology is all about, you may be interested in learning more about the Ethereal Series materials from this brand.

What is Silestone N-Boost?

Silestone® N-Boost changes the molecular structure of the quartz material, enhancing its aesthetics and improving its technical performance. Thus, it makes cleaning and maintenance of Silestone® easier than ever and achieves a greater intensity of colours and an extraordinary shine in them. Furthermore, by modifying the material’s molecules, the process further improves its technical and aesthetic performance, making cleaning and maintenance of Silestone easier than ever and achieving a greater intensity of colours and extraordinary shine in them.

The development of N-Boost means talking about a Silestone revolution. After the launch of the Silestone product in 1990, the development of the material’s bacteriostatic protection in 2005 and the creation of the Silestone Suede matte finish in 2012, Silestone N-Boost represents in 2017 another historical revolution of the Spanish brand, improving, even more, the technical and aesthetic performance of the material.

The Ethereal Series from Silestone

We are introducing the Ethereal Collection: an unprecedented leap in design, sustainability and innovation powered by HybriQ + technology, taking the concept of marbled colours to a new dimension. Ethereal, an evolution of the acclaimed Eternal Collection, interprets the dreamlike beauty of the sky, drawing delicate veins of deep shades on white canvases—the result: the most advanced and avant-garde series from Silestone. In addition, a redefinition of the veining creates a new quartz category in terms of improved design and superior performance.

You can choose Silestone Ethereal worktops in four new colours available in different textures, with practical benefits that include:

  • Resistant to stains: The Silestone Ethereal Collection, powered by HybriQ+, has a low porosity product with zero liquid absorption.
  • Resistance to acid: Quartz is a hard mineral, making Silestone Ethereal as sturdy as granite and ultra-resilient surface to external damage.
  • Resistant to accidental impact: Better resistance to impact than other materials on the market, such as granite or solid surfaces.
  • Resistance to scratches: Quartz gives Silestone Ethereal Collection a superior scratch-resistance than quartz products with older manufacturing technologies.

As its name suggests, the colours from the ‘Ethereal’ Series offer groundbreaking features considered out of this world until now. It results from the metamorphosis that the brand is undergoing both internally and externally to compromise our environment. These four new colours preview a stunning collection of quartz products that the company will be launching over the next few months.

Silestone Etheral Dusk: The bluish tone in the interior of its veins gives Dusk a modern touch which, in combination with its avant-garde geometric directionality, makes it a sleek and simple model in the collection. It can work well with darker hues such as dark grey or black, brown woods, and metal with hints of rust. You can choose Ethereal Dusk quartz from thicknesses of 12 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm. Similarly, you can choose this colour in a polished finish in Suede, a matt-and-slightly-textured finish from Silestone.

Ethereal Haze: Haze owes its name to the mix of hues taking place in the slab, combining neutral colours and depth. The mix of warmth and coolness in its shades makes it perfect for spaces with a wood or cement look. You can combine this material with other objects in the room, such as rustic elements, copper, and golden appliances. In addition, you can create great contrast by pairing it with other stones. This stone is available in polished and Suede finish. You can also choose from thicknesses ranging between 12 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm for worktops.

For this reason, they create stone surfaces that are not only beautiful but also practical, durable, and easy to maintain. The Ethereal Glow finish has created a unique product best described as “sunset on marble”.

Can Silestone be repaired?

It depends on the type and the size of the damage. Expert finishers can offer flawless repairs suitable for all kinds of worktops, including Silestone. They can use resin fillers that cure under UV lighting systems, mimicking the colour of your quartz stone.

If you have a cracked joint against a wall, you may be able to repair the top with a thin layer of silicone. This glue-based material bonds directly to the silicon in the top. You could add more silicone to the gap to cover any gaps in the joint. Any other important facts to bear in mind? Silestone worktops should rest for up to 12 hours right after installation, as this helps to set them against your kitchen cabinets.

What can I do if my Silestone is cracked?

Nothing. Allowing the cracked area to wear through naturally and without intervention will be best for the lifespan of the worktop. If the crack is extensive, seek a specialist finisher to repair the damage. If you decide to treat the damage yourself, what can I do? There are many ways to help improve your cracked Silestone worktop. At The Worktop Library, we recommend brushing a Silestone surface with beeswax, or a beeswax-oil-based liquid, to help seal the crack. To make a Silestone restoration for a wall, you can try using a gentle plaster of EZ Patch (a product that contains siliceous volcanic ash) to fill the crack and rubber, then seal with another application of EZ Patch. Apply the plaster by the trowel in the crack, then gently buff out the excess, leaving a smooth finish.

How much does it cost to have a repair done?

It’s not uncommon for contractors to quote a set cost, so you’ll need to get this across to the restorer before making an appointment. The price will include resin, so you can keep it with you on the day of the repair, reducing your time waiting and your stress levels. However, the total cost will depend on the size and extent of the damage. Additionally, you can restore Silestone to its original colour. Credit: Ben White / Alamy If you have the money, will you get the same level of restoration as Silestone from scratch? Certainly. “It will feel as if it was fully restored when you’re watching the texture come back to life,” says Brian Hoskins, the lead colour technician at Wallpaper Direct.

Who should I contact for repairs?

Silestone specialists are in high demand, and they can repair damage to your worktops through a series of resin applications, ready for re-installation in less than three hours. Find a specialist in your area through your local tile supplier. Similarly, repairing a damaged Silestone worktop is a lot cheaper than replacing it with a new Silestone. It’s also much quicker, and you won’t have to fork out for a new door and mouldings. If a Silestone worktop needs some expensive work done, make sure you speak to an expert to avoid costly problems later on.

Silestone: How to Clean

Follow these six cleaning tips to keep your worktops glowing.

  • If stains do show: rinse off and dry under a clean and slightly damp kitchen towel before removing and reapplying. Rubbing alcohol is effective on dyed stains.
  • How to clean for premium worktops: If surface grit residues are present by cleaning products, gently rub away any surface debris with a soft or micro-fibre cloth.
  • Removing a glue bond:  this method may require a soft or mechanical scrubber. Moreover, do not leave wet Silestone on a hot appliance to dry.
  • Avoid exposing Silestone to hot water: If discoloured, clean with a wet cloth. In addition, you should chemically clean any Silestone you expose to acidic or mineral acids or detergents.
  • Vacuum Silestone:  You can hoover Silestone using a vacuum cleaner with a flexible hose attachment, with the vacuum nozzle over the worktop allowing fine filaments to lift. Do not use a deep-force vacuum cleaner with metal or rubber casings on your worktops. Also, do not expose quartz worktops to a dryer.
  • For daily care: clean your Silestone worktops with a soft or micro-fibre cloth, clean water and mild soap and wipe dry. You can use a window cleaning spray for persistent marks such as ‘Windowlene’.

It’s safe to use Silestone if you follow these guidelines and don’t use too much force or if you follow the cleaning process we’ve outlined above. Otherwise, you’re increasing the chances of causing damage to the surface or breaking it, or worse still, making it crack and peel. In the worst cases, that can lead to costly repairs that you’ll have to pay for yourself. Update – August 2021: Some Silestone products now use superior materials with higher-end properties than the original design.

Buying Silestone Ethereal: Conclusion

Silestone is one of the leading quartz worktop materials in the market; hence investing in it and purchasing them can be beneficial. However, there is a minimal use and care guideline that you should follow with every quartz worktop purchase, and the same is the case with the Silestone Ethereal colours. Therefore, you should only invest your money after proper research and a budgeting strategy.
