Designing or re-designing a property has always been a matter of confusion. Out of all the procedures involved in the whole process, the choice of kitchen and bathroom worktops is the most complicated.

Many options are available; out of all that, marble and quartz are the most popular.  However, within these two varieties, people with limited knowledge of the subject also fail to understand the differences between the products, such as the grey marble or quartz worktops. Reading the blog further will help people better understand the differences between these two popular products.

Material used in composition

Grey marble is a natural stone made out of limestone. For the process of making grey marble worktops or other marble worktops, limestone is made to go through intense heat and pressure.

Grey quartz worktops and other quartz worktops are engineered stones made using 90-95 % natural quartz crystals. Compared to natural marble, engineered quartz brings in more consistent colours and patterns.

Appearance of the worktop materials

Grey marble worktops will bring a classic, natural and aesthetic appeal to the area of worktop installation. Every slab will be a unique piece of art with a variety of colours and textures.

Grey quartz worktops bring more uniformity in appearance and thus fit well in a modern and contemporary kitchen setup. The buyer will get to choose from a good range of shades.

Durability and strength of the worktop materials –

Marble is porous in nature and is thus more prone to scratches, stains and cracks. So, durability may become a problem. Also, the material is highly sensitive to acidic natural things like lemon juice, vinegar, etc. So, the worktops will be primarily suitable for moderate use.

Grey quartz is very hard and non-porous, and the worktops are, therefore, resistant to scratches or any damage. The worktops are thus perfect for use in heavily used kitchens and bathrooms.

Maintenance of the worktops

Grey marble will demand regular sealing to protect it against stains, moisture and damage. One will have to be active in cleaning spills to avoid damage from permanent marks.

Grey quartz is easier to maintain and clean than marble. All one will need is a damp cloth and some mild detergent. Sealing and polishing is not required. Shows good resistance against everyday use of substances.

Cost of the worktops

Grey marble can start at a lower price pointthan engineered quartz, but rare varieties are more expensive than any composite stone as they originate only in a few regions worldwide, adding to theuniquely luxurious vibe of an interior. The installation cost of the worktop also remains high. Also, the difficulty of maintenance adds more to the overall cost of marble.

Premium quartz worktops may appear costly at first. However, in the long term, quartz worktops will become an effective worktop solution. The maintenance cost of these worktops is also non-existent, making them more budget-friendly.
