What motivates our worktop blog, you wonder? Our company seeks to remove the obstacles, myths, and misinterpretations that stop people from researching and utilizing the best kitchen worktop materials for their homes and offices.
Maria Kairuz, co-owner of The Worktop Library in London, has vast experience and deep research on stone worktop materials. It attracted a following made of architects, interior designers, property developers, and design enthusiasts around London and the UK. However, she is not your average stone worktop specialist.
Maria’s beginnings in natural and engineered stone products come naturally. With an innate taste for all things beautiful, she worked in high-end fashion and brands like Jigsaw for over a decade, dressing high-net-worth individuals, celebrities, and fashionistas. However, Maria’s career transformed when she found the world of natural marble and granite. Besides having Italian origins, she naturally loved the history and culture of all things stone.
Our Team
Alan, the Marketing Manager at the Worktop Library, also worked for high-end brands in fashion.
He started as a Versace model in the ’90s, working with photographers like Mario Testino and Bruce Webber. He later worked for shoe designer Patrick Cox and managed several Matches Fashion stores, a London-based clothing retailer. Matches became the number one luxury shopping destination for modern online fashion customers. These helped him gain early experience in the online marketing of luxury goods and high-value items.
Alan co-founded MKW Surfaces, one of the very first online stone suppliers in the UK, in 2012. It became a leading brand within its sector, which it sold in 2020.
Combining their extensive experience with stone and online retail, they recently launched The Worktop Library. An online worktop store servicing all of London and the South of England.
We always felt a bit unnerved to see the complacency in the stone industry: ‘busy ‘stonemasons (or ‘too big’) manufacturers to educate their clients. Thus, selecting the correct type of kitchen worktop material is confusing or intimidating for many.
So, welcome to the Worktop Library Blog. The Worktop Library is reclaiming the notion of making simple and selecting appropriate worktop products for busy online clientele. Similarly, we educate visitors and enthusiasts about the latest stone news and materials. Also, we talk about the impact of some natural stones and their regional components (extraction, quarrying, finishing, transport). In addition, we discuss the features of engineered stones (quartz, terrazzo, ceramic, porcelain) and how to purchase stone worktops.
The Worktop Library in London also offers affordable marble worktops, bathroom cladding, floors, and walls.
