Ascale porcelain and marble have different characteristics that affect their installation, maintenance, and performance. While marble is a natural stone that can come in virtually unlimited colours and designs, it is porous. As a result, it requires periodic sealing to prevent stains and water damage. In contrast, Ascale is an artificial material that is non-porous and does not require sealing. It is also highly durable, resistant to scratches, heat, and UV rays, and suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Regarding cost, Ascale is generally comparable to mid-range granite, with prices ranging from £153 in 12 mm in a matte texture to £262 in 20 mm thickness in a polished finish per square metre, including VAT.

How do you maintain Ascale worktops?

Ascale is a sintered, high-performance ceramic surface comprising a blend of natural minerals such as clay, quartz, and glass. To keep its beauty and shine for years to come, here are some tips on how to maintain Ascale worktops:

  1. Routine cleaning: Ascale requires very little maintenance. Regularly wipe your Ascale surface using a non-abrasive sponge with soap and warm water. In addition, you can use any pH-balanced general-purpose cleaner (e.g. Windowlene, a supermarket’s generic brand, etc.)
  2. Stain removal: For common and recent stains, apply neutral soap to the affected area and gently rub in a circular motion with a damp microfiber cloth. Leave to work for a couple of minutes, then wipe off any soap residue with a cloth. Finally, dry it with kitchen paper. For stubborn stains, rinse any stain on the surface by wiping a clean cloth with water. Clean in a circular motion for 1-2 minutes. Afterwards, dry it with a kitchen towel. If the stains remain, use a green scouring pad (it won’t scratch Ascale’s surface), limescale remover, and water.
  3. Installation and fabrication: When installing Ascale, always use water-cooled tools to prevent overheating, which can yield inferior results. Other equipment prevalent in working with Ascale ceramic surfaces also has specific requirements.
