Dolomite is a grey sedimentary rock similar to granite that forms on the earth's surface. Dolomite stone deposits are present in many countries, with the most famous quarries in the Dolomite Alps in Italy, which lend its name to the stone. Dolomiti granite worktops are graceful, long-lasting, and almost as resistant as black granite.
Dolomite is a sediment stone on the planet's surface, whereas granite forms from molten rock beneath the earth's surface. As a result, granite worktops are more resistant than Dolomite and sometimes less expensive. In addition, Dolomite is tougher than marble but softer than granite and can have a similar look to marble thanks to its dark veined patterns.
Dolomite comprises calcium magnesium carbonate, whereas limestone includes calcium carbonate.
- Unlike limestone, Dolomite does not contain sand, clay, or silt.
- Dolomite is usually chosen over limestone because of its higher abrasion resistance, more robust structure, lower absorbency, and higher resistance to stains and scratches.
- Although both Dolomite and Limestone are sedimentary stones composed primarily of calcite and aragonite, Dolomite is more crystalline.
- Dolomite is best suited for demanding applications such as worktops and flooring.
